This book draws attention to the significance of provincial capital, changes spearheaded by communities, new institutional functions in environmental management, religious and cultural values of the space and the reverse flows from the global South to the North in the form of traditional food grains, health practices etc., that cannot be seen as a subtext of the logic of global capital. Together the chapters in the book present a non-essentialist and non-linear reading of global transformations by examining the relations and adaptations between economy, polity and society, which remains a fundamentally unresolved question in the social sciences.
